Reference Citing and Formatting Guidelines
In-text Citations
References may be cited using any one of the following styles:
Author–year format (e.g., Smith, 2021)
Numerical format (e.g., [1] or 1)
Superscript numerical format (e.g., ¹)
Whichever citation style is chosen, it must be applied consistently throughout the manuscript.
Reference List
The reference list format is flexible, and authors may follow any internationally accepted citation style, such as APA (American Psychological Association), MLA (Modern Language Association), Chicago, Vancouver, Harvard, etc. Authors must adhere strictly to the formatting rules of the chosen style in both in-text citations and reference list entries.
General Notes: Do not include citations in the abstract. Ensure that all references are accurate, complete, and verifiable. Include DOIs or URLs for online references where applicable. Avoid excessive self-citation or citation of non-peer-reviewed sources unless justified.
Tables and Figures
Tables must be submitted as editable text (not as images) and embedded within the main manuscript text at appropriate positions. Number tables consecutively based on their order of appearance in the text (e.g., Table 1, Table 2, etc.). Ensure that tables do not repeat data already presented elsewhere in the manuscript (e.g., in text or figures). Tables should be properly cited in the text. All figures should be of high resolution. Submit them as TIFF or JPEG files at a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. The Exon editorial team reserves the right to request figure revisions if they do not meet the required quality or formatting standards.
