Study of Radioprotection by Silver Nanoparticle-Ascorbic Acid Monoglucoside Complex

Ionizing radiations affect various aspects of human life, especially in areas pertaining to radiotherapy of cancer, food preservation, the agriculture industry and power generation; there is a need to develop an effective and nontoxic radioprotector. The study of the efficacy of silver nanoparticle ascorbic acid monoglucoside complex as a radioprotector in murine models was done by oral administration of nanodrug prior to whole body exposure to gamma radiation (4 Gy) of male Balb /c mice. The studies conducted include cytotoxicity and radioprotection. Various parameters such as superoxide scavenging activity (SOD), glutathione peroxidase activity (GPx), lipid peroxide scavenging activity (LPO) and levels of reduced glutathione (GSH) were investigated in the tissues of irradiated animals. The level of oxidative stress was found to be reduced.
